Guest sleeping peacefully

“God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.”

2 Timothy 1 : 7

Volunteer Registration

We are now closed for the summer.  If you register as a volunteer now, you will hear from us closer to the November opening.

ECWNS is now closed until November 2017, but you can still volunteer in a shelter in Ealing Borough.  HOPE for Southall Street Homeless are still running, and are looking for helpers, especially overnight (10pm-6am) and in the morning (6:30-8am).  Unlike ECWNS, overnight volunteers are there with a professional security person and get to sleep all night unless needed in an emergency. Please contact Raj on if you can help.

HSSH is a shelter for destitute Southall rough sleepers with 14 beds, which runs 365 days a year. Most guests are from the Indian subcontinent, but also from some EU Countries. It is run and staffed by a majority of volunteers from the local community.  It grew out of the original ECWNS, and Southall Churches are a MAJOR stakeholder in this charity and provide the venues in rotation. Recently HSSH have been chosen as charity of choice by the St. James Group (house builders).

Thank you so much for offering your time and skills to the Night Shelter. Volunteers are what make the shelter work. We hope you will find it a rewarding and enjoyable experience. You might like to start by reading through the Volunteer Handbook to get more details about the way it all works, and what is expected of volunteers. Unfortunately we cannot allow under-18’s to be on site with our homeless guests, but we do have some teenagers helping with setting up in the early evening. Please email James for more info.

There are well-established teams in most of the venues, and you don’t need to re-register if you have volunteered before. If you are new, we will let you know about training opportunities, and pass on your availability and details to the venues hosting the shelter. They will contact you if they need help at the times you have specified. We may also email you if you offer specific skills (eg translation) as and when we need it, and when we have a sudden need in a particular place. If you don’t hear anything and want to talk about what you have to offer, or to visit to see what goes on at the shelter, please feel free to email or call Alison on or 07930 378263.

In 2015-16, we are working with Hope for Southall Street Homeless to help with the special issues faced by people in that area, so it would be useful if you could let us know if you are able to help there.
